What is the Reserve Forces & Cadets Association
in Greater London?
There are thirteen of these tri-service organisations
throughout the country, each covering a geographical area of responsibility,
whose collective interests are represented by the Council of Reserve
Forces &
Cadets Association.
The Association assumed its current name from
1st April 2000 from TAVRA, which stood for Territorial Auxiliary and
Volunteer Reserve Association. Reserve Forces & Cadets are the successors
of the county Associations, which were set up by the Act of Parliament
in 1908 to provide administrative support for the Territorial Force. Sir David Brewer CMG
JP, Lord
Lieutenant of Greater London, is the current President for the Reserve
Forces &
Cadets Association for Greater London, which is unique in having
within its constitution a City of London Sub Association whose President
is the Lord Mayor. The Association has one hundred and ninety voluntary
members representing all units, the cadet forces, local authorities and
various elements of the community, who conduct business through a series
of committees.
Support for London's
Volunteers
Our Reserve Forces & Cadets Association aims to
foster the widest measure of support for the Reserve Forces within the
community in Greater London and to create a favourable climate in which units
and detachments themselves may recruit and carry out their normal day to day
administration and training. The Association is closely concerned with the
morale and welfare of its volunteers and with the personal and administrative
problems, which the adults face as members of both the civilian community and
the Armed Forces.
In essence, the Association exists to serve and
support London's Volunteers in the broadest sense.
